.After trying to kidnap a woman in the West Loop and grabbing a woman in the South Loop on Sunday morning, registered sex offender Quavon Ewing dumped a cup of his own urine onto a woman at a downtown CTA station and told her she “deserved it,” prosecutors alleged Wednesday.
CTA security cameras captured that incident and other images of Ewing, 32, that led Chicago police to arrest him on Tuesday at the Jackson Red Line station.
Less than 24 hours after Judge Maryam Ahamad released Ewing on his own recognizance for failing to register as a sex offender, Ewing stood next to a minivan in the 100 block of West Roosevelt, peeing into a cup.
Prosecutors said he grabbed a 35-year-old woman by the shoulders as she passed the van on her way to the gym. He allegedly put her in a bear hug, moaned, and called her “baby” until she bit him on the neck and hit him with her phone. At that point, he jumped into the van and drove away.
About 15 minutes later, at 8:45 a.m., a 45-year-old woman saw Ewing standing next to the van in the 200 block of South Sangamon as she returned from Starbucks. Prosecutors said he jumped in front of her, grabbed her by the shoulders, and tried to force her into the van.
The woman screamed and fought so hard to avoid being put into the van that she pulled part of the vehicle off. Prosecutors say that when a good Samaritan tried to help, Ewing threatened them with something he took from the van and then drove away.
Then, just after 9 a.m., CTA cameras allegedly recorded Ewing as he urinated into a cup at a CTA station in the Loop. Minutes later, he passed a 25-year-old woman who was entering the station, and he poured the bottle of urine on her head, face, mouth, and purse, prosecutors said.
“You deserve it,” he allegedly told the woman.
His defense attorney said he has mental health conditions.
Prosecutors charged him with attempted kidnapping by force and two counts of aggravated battery in a public place.
Judge Ahmad, the same judge who released him on his own recognizance for failing to register as a sex offender Saturday, was back on the bench Wednesday. She wasn’t nearly as generous in her ruling.
She ordered Ewing to pay a $50,000 bail deposit to get out of jail on the kidnapping and battery charges, plus another $10,000 deposit for failing to register.
In addition to giving Ewing a recognizance bond on the felony registration charge Saturday, Ahmad also quashed another judge’s arrest warrant that should have held Ewing in lieu of $1,500 on an outstanding battery case.
Ewing’s sex offender status stems from an incident in the summer of 2017. He was charged with criminal sexual abuse and other crimes for allegedly grabbing women as they walked in the South Loop. Court records show that he got a three-year sentence for sexual abuse and another two years for aggravated battery.
The outstanding warrant that Ahmad quashed stems from an incident outside the Cook County jail in March 2020. In that case, he was charged with three counts of misdemeanor battery and two counts of criminal damage to property, according to court records.
He was released on his own recognizance less than six hours later.
And records show that, less than 11 hours after getting out, he was arrested again on felony charges of aggravated battery of a nurse and aggravated battery of a peace officer. He received a set of concurrent three-year terms after pleading guilty, according to court records, and was released earlier this month.
According to court records, Ewing was released from prison on September 2 after serving a set of concurrent three-year prison sentences in that case.
