Chicago police say there have been three similar robberies on a single Gold Coast block over the past three weeks, and detectives think they’re all related. The crimes have been happening on Elm Street just west of State Street during the overnight hours.

Police said one or two men have been striking up conversations with people on the street before taking the victims’ property by force, according to a CPD bulletin. The offenders then use the victims’ credit cards to make unauthorized purchases and cash withdrawals.

The robberies took place around 3 a.m. on September 10, midnight on September 25, and during the overnight hours on Saturday, October 1, according to police records.

CPD said the hold-ups had been committed by one or two Black males between 20- and 30-years-old who stand 5’7″ to 6-feet tall and weigh 175 to 185 pounds.

If you have information about the crimes, you can contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8263 regarding crime pattern P22-3-069.
