Chicago police are conducting a murder investigation after they found a woman dead during a well-being check on the North Side. A suspect is in custody.

Officially, CPD said only that police found an adult woman dead after responding to a home in the 5900 block of North Washtenaw around 7 p.m. Monday. A source said the woman’s body was found in a freezer at the home.

Police also found bloody towels in a garbage can just south of Foster Beach in the 5100 block of North Simonds Drive. The medical examiner initially listed that address as the location of the victim’s death.

Friends of the woman reported her missing on Monday evening, but they called the police again around 7 p.m. after seeing blood inside the home on Washtenaw.

Following up on a lead, police searched the West Ridge area for a female suspect, whom they arrested shortly before 8 p.m., according to a source. Officers also impounded her vehicle.

The suspect’s relationship with the deceased woman is unknown.

On Tuesday, the CPD investigation was still ongoing.
