Man shot while walking in Edgewater

Chicago police are investigating after a man was shot in the Edgewater neighborhood on Friday night.

The 38-year-old was walking in the 5900 block of North Kenmore when a gunman approached him and started shooting around 10:04 p.m., according to a CPD media statement. A police officer at the scene said they found at least 20 shell casings on the sidewalk and grass.

One bullet struck the victim in his left arm, and he was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for treatment.

While fleeing the scene in a gray Hyundai Tuscon, the gunman’s car struck another vehicle in a nearby intersection, then continued to leave the area, according to witnesses.

The victim is the second person shot in Edgewater this year. That’s the same number of victims the neighborhood recorded as of this date last year, according to city of Chicago data.
