Chicago police are questioning a woman after finding a man fatally shot inside a Rogers Park apartment on Friday evening.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 7500 block of North Damen at 8:51 p.m., police said. They found the 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head and a spent shell casing inside an adjacent room, according to officers who responded to the scene.

EMS took the man to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 911 caller reported that the victim had shot himself in the head, possibly by accident. But CPD classified the shooting as a homicide in a media statement that said investigators took a woman inside the residence to Area Three headquarters for questioning.

Five people have been shot in Rogers Park this year, and two have died.

The neighborhood had six shooting victims at this point last year, including three who were shot during a single incident.

Rogers Park had just one shooting victim as of March 4, 2021.
