Update April 19: The woman, her boyfriend, who was also attacked, and the good Samaritan who came to their aid have now spoken with ABC7 Chicago and NBC5 Chicago.
CHICAGO — An alarming video has emerged that shows a woman being attacked by a group of young people in downtown Chicago. The footage, posted at the end of this story, is included in a sort of “brag tape” of video clips purportedly recorded during a “large group” incident in the Loop on Saturday night.
After the attack of the woman at 129 North Wabash, another clip shows a man punching a CTA bus operator through a shattered window next to the driver’s seat. Another shows young people jumping on an SUV.
CWBChicago has not yet confirmed that the footage is from Saturday, but the montage appeared online after Saturday’s event. Chicago police have said that nine juveniles and six adults were arrested during the course of Saturday evening.
Neither Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot nor Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson has plans to answer questions from the media today, NBC5 reporter Mary Ann Ahern tweeted.
Saturday’s group in the Loop followed a similar gathering at 31st Street Beach on Friday night. A smaller crowd gathered in the Loop on Wednesday evening.
Three people, all teenage boys, were shot — two in the Loop on Saturday and one at the beach on Friday, according to Chicago police.
On Monday, Chicago police confirmed that a couple was attacked and robbed by a group of people in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue around 8 p.m. Saturday. The 22-year-old man and a woman, whom police said is between 18 and 24 years old, were near Millennium Park when the group attacked them.
The offenders struck both victims repeatedly, took their property, and fled, a police spokesperson said. Both victims were taken to the University of Illinois Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to CPD.
