Daylight robberies return to West Loop, Logan Square; cops warn of holdup crew responsible for 60+ crimes

CHICAGO — Another day, another stack of robberies to report about. And, like so many times in recent weeks, Wednesday’s holdups were centered around Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and the West Loop.

Yesterday’s first wave of robberies began around 11:10 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Fulton Market. Three men traveling in a car with temporary plates robbed a man who was working outside of his money and phone, according to a CPD report.

Chicago police say the same group of robbers robbed another victim in the 2200 block of West Cortez in Ukrainian Village around 11:30 a.m.

And, in a community alert issued after yesterday’s incidents, police said the group is also responsible for three robberies that occurred on Tuesday: In the 2500 block of West Walton at 11:20 a.m., in the 2600 block of West Thomas at 1:19 p.m.; and in the 1900 block of West Superior at 3:18 p.m.

According to the alert, this particular group does not use firearms to commit their robberies. CPD said the crew consists of three Black males between 15 and 20 years old who wear dark hoodies, dark pants, and dark ski masks.

Another robbery was reported around 11:40 a.m. yesterday in the 2500 block of West Lyndale. But guns were displayed at that time. The victim was outside when two men wearing black masks took their wallet and phone. They escaped in an SUV bearing a temporary plate.

Later, a 53-year-old delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in the 2500 block of West Chicago Avenue around 4:05 p.m., Chicago police said.

In another community alert issued on Wednesday, Chicago police warned about another armed robbery pattern that involves more than 60 holdups since June 23. All of the robberies involve groups of offenders who exit cars and display handguns to rob people on the street. Police said the robbers physically attacked some of the victims, and some of the crimes involved carjackings.

CPD described the robbers as two to five Black males between 18 and 25 years old who wore dark clothing and black ski masks.

Here is the list of robberies CPD included in the alert. Links to CWBChicago stories are provided when available:

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
