Police investigate shootings in Logan Square, Humboldt Park

CHICAGO — A motorcyclist shot and critically wounded a man in Logan Square overnight, Chicago police said. Another man was shot in Humboldt Park on Saturday afternoon.

Most recently, a 19-year-old man was riding in the back seat of a Toyota minivan when a motorcyclist pulled up to them in the 3400 block of West Fullerton around 2:44 a.m.

The biker fired shots into the vehicle, striking the victim in the neck, then sped away westbound on Fullerton.

Officers were told via radio that the motorcycle appeared yellow and that the gunman was a Hispanic man with short black hair wearing a tank top.

Police said the victim is in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

On Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot while standing in the 1500 block of North Talman around 3:18 p.m. The police provided few details about the incident other than to say the victim was shot in the arm and did not know the gunman.

As of Friday, eleven people had been shot in Logan Square this year, down from 15 in 2023. The neighborhood had 24 shooting victims as of August 18, 2021, and 14 in 2020, according to city records.

In Humboldt Park, shooting victims were recorded through Friday. That’s much lower than other recent years: 109 last year, 128 in 2021, and 130 in 2020.
