Video: Armed robbery crew claims 3 victims in 25 seconds at Logan Square auto shop

CHICAGO — Yesterday, we shared images of an armed robbery at a Logan Square auto repair shop over the weekend. It is one of dozens of similar holdups reported to Chicago police since Friday.

Now we have the full video of the robbery, and it is something to see.

From the time the robbers open the doors of their getaway car until they leave in the vehicle, merely 25 seconds elapse. It’s obvious that these gunmen have done the same thing many times before.

The video was recorded at Illinois Auto Repair, 2351 North St. Louis, around 7:21 p.m. Saturday. It was one of several stops the crew made that afternoon. Chicago police said three men were robbed during the holdup. Watch:

The getaway car seen in the video, a Nissan, was used during another spree on Sunday in West Town and the West Loop.

Similar robbery sprees have been happening day after day for months. On the police beat that includes the auto repair shop in the video, robberies are up almost 100% compared to last year. Between January 1 and August 15, the beat had 20 robberies, seven of which occurred in the first 15 days of this month.

The Shakespeare (14th) District, which includes the auto repair shop and parts of Humboldt Park and Logan Square, West Town, Bucktown, Wicker Park, and parts of Avondale, is seeing a 49% increase in robberies this year. The last 28 days were 190% higher than last year.

Robberies are up 54% this year in CPD’s Near West (12th) District, which includes parts of West Town and the Near West Side, much of the West Loop, Fulton Market, and Pilsen.

Citywide, robbery reports are up 22% this year, according to CPD’s latest statistics report.
