Woman shot during robbery across from Chicago police station; separate shooting reported nearby

CHICAGO — A woman was shot on Wednesday afternoon during a robbery in an apartment building across the street from a Chicago police station on the Near North Side. A few hours later, a man was critically injured in a shooting just a block north of the same police station.

In a sparse media statement, CPD said a 28-year-old woman was inside an apartment in the 1100 block of North Larrabee when an unknown person fired a shot, grazing her left hand, around 3:40 p.m.

But CWBChicago has learned that the woman was shot during a robbery, and police are looking for two men.

After the robbery, the woman sought help at the Near North (18th) District station at 1160 North Larrabee. She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.

Officers were told to look for two suspects: a tall, thin black man wearing jeans with a gray sweatshirt and a short, heavyset black man wearing black clothing. They were seen in an alley between the victims’ building and Holy Family Lutheran Church, directly across the street from the 18th District station parking lot.

Then, around 8:31 p.m., an officer in the parking lot radioed that he heard shots fired north of the police station.

Officers found a 34-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his legs in the 500 block of West Scott a few minutes later.

CPD said the victim was fighting another person when three men approached, and one began shooting. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to a police statement.

So far this year, 25 people have been shot on the Near North Side, with nine being shot in August.

On Sunday morning, 24-year-old Brandon Hatcher was shot and killed while waiting for a red light to change in the 800 block of North Orleans.

Four people were shot by a gunman who sprayed over two dozen bullets near the Clark-Division Red Line station around 11:46 p.m. on Sunday, August 13. Chicago police said a 28-year-old man was critically injured. The other victims—a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, and a 42-year-old man—suffered gunshot wounds to their legs.

About three hours later, another man was shot a few blocks away in an unrelated incident, according to Chicago police. The 32-year-old was sitting in his car in the 900 block of North Cambridge when an unknown person shot him. He drove himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A 40-year-old man was shot in the leg during an altercation in the 500 block of North State early on August 5.
