CHICAGO — Three people showed up at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Friday morning after being shot in Uptown, according to Chicago police.
So far this month, ten people have been shot in Uptown, including another man who was shot last week less than 20 feet from where Friday’s victims were wounded.
Chicago police said in a media statement on Friday that two 18-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy were sitting in a parked car in the 4400 block of North Sheridan when “unknown offenders” walked up and began shooting at them around 10:31 a.m.
The juvenile suffered gunshot wounds to both thighs. One of the men received a graze wound to his head, and the other suffered a gunshot wound to his foot, according to CPD.
Less than 15 minutes later, a bullet-riddled Nissan Rogue arrived at Northwestern, and the three victims walked in for treatment. The car’s driver dumped the Nissan, which was reported stolen in Schaumburg, near a loading dock in the 1000 block of North State Street.
Evidence markers were placed next to at least 12 shell casings at the shooting scene. An officer said a nearby CPD surveillance camera recorded the crime. They said the footage showed three men running from the area after at least one of them fired at the Nissan: a black male wearing a blue jacket with white lettering, another man wearing all black, and a third man wearing a lime green hoodie.
Last Friday evening, October 13, a 38-year-old man was shot in almost exactly the same location as Friday’s victims. He was standing when someone opened fire around 8:06 p.m. Cops found him in the Dollar Tree store parking lot with gunshot wounds to both legs.
Four people were wounded when two men opened fire on a group of people at Winthrop and Argyle around 12:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, according to police. CPD surveillance footage of the shooting was posted to Twitter this week:
The same gunmen are believed to have shot at, but missed, a teenager in the 900 block of West Wilson just a few minutes earlier.
On October 2, a 15-year-old boy and a 44-year-old man were shot in the 1000 block of West Argyle. Police said the gunman emerged from an alley and began shooting around 11:12 a.m.
Uptown has seen 22 people shot so far this year, up from 15 at this point in 2022. There were 16 by this date in 2021 and 14 in 2020.
Chicago police officers were warned in July about four North Side gang hot spots the department had identified as ripe for retaliatory shootings between Gangster Disciples in Rogers Park and the Wicked City faction of the Black P Stones street gang to the south.
