‘Uncooperative’ man claims he was shot in Bucktown overnight: Chicago police

Chicago police are investigating after an “uncooperative” man showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound, claiming to have been wounded in Bucktown.

Someone dropped the 20-year-old off at Swedish Covenant Hospital overnight for treatment of a gunshot wound to his left thigh, according to a Chicago police statement.

He told police he was in the 2300 block of West Belden when he “heard shots and felt pain” around 3:10 a.m. CPD’s statement said the man “was uncooperative with responding officers.”

The local police district did not receive any calls of shots fired during the timeframe given by the man. He has already been released from the hospital, according to CPD.

Unless investigators determine that the shooting occurred elsewhere, he will be the eighth person shot in Wicker Park and Bucktown this year, up from six at this point in 2022.

Half of this year’s shootings in Wicker Park and Bucktown occurred during robberies.

The neighborhoods had nine shooting victims by today’s date in 2021, including five during a single event in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee.
