CHICAGO — Prosecutors have charged a 52-year-old man with critically injuring a woman on the Magnificent Mile this week, according to a Chicago police media statement.

Bruce Diamond, 52, will appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon on a charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

During his hearing, officials will reveal more information about what happened outside the Burberry store, 633 North Michigan. Here’s what we know so far:

A 23-year-old woman was on the Mag Mile around 2:10 p.m. Monday when someone struck her in the head with a large object, rendering her unconscious. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police said Diamond “threw a large object” at the woman. A source familiar with the investigation said the object was a log.

Chicago cops assigned to patrol Michigan Avenue took Diamond into custody almost immediately.

Citing preliminary information, the source said the woman was believed to be a flight attendant who was shopping while on a layover in Chicago.

CWBChicago will post an updated story after Diamond appears in court.
