Another robbery victim gets shot in Chicago, the 7th robbery-related shooting in a week

CHICAGO — Another robbery victim was shot during a holdup on Friday afternoon, Chicago police said, making him at least the seventh person shot during robberies since last Saturday.

He was in the 6900 block of South Marshfield when a white car pulled up around 3:24 p.m., according to CPD. Two men got out of the car and demanded his property. He did not immediately comply, so one of the robbers pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said.

The robbers returned to the white car and left.

EMS took the victim to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a CPD media statement.

At least six other people have been shot during robberies over the past week. Two of them died—one victim and one robber.

  • Two robbery victims were shot Wednesday morning when one of them, a concealed carry holder, exchanged gunfire with the offenders, according to police. None of the offenders was injured. Both victims were shot when the crew returned fire. CPD said the woman, 40, was shot in the chest, and the 65-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his right calf. They were in good condition at West Suburban Hospital, according to police.
  • At 8:44 p.m. Tuesday, Adriana Arocha-Duque was fatally shot while driving ride-share in the 4800 block of West Thomas. Police officers responding to calls of a traffic crash found her behind the wheel of her car with a gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses told police they saw a man and woman get out of her car and run away after the crash, according to a Chicago police statement.
  • Earlier on Tuesday, two men were standing near a van in the 2200 block of South Hamlin when four men armed with rifles or long guns pulled up in a white SUV around 7:08 a.m. The gunmen got out and demanded the victims’ property. After taking valuables from one man, one of the robbers started shooting toward the victims, police said. The 37-year-old was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • On Christmas morning, armed robbers shot a 29-year-old man during a robbery in the 4300 block of West Armitage, Chicago police said. A ShotSpotter gunfire detector first alerted cops to the robbery, which occurred around 7:20 a.m.
  • Last Saturday afternoon, December 23, a 68-year-old concealed carry license holder shot and killed a 19-year-old man in the 1700 block of West Cortez. The older man told police that the dead man was among four people who tried to rob him, according to officers at the scene.
