CHICAGO — Police are investigating an armed carjacking and another robbery reported minutes apart in the Gold Coast and River North on Sunday morning.
The carjacking victim, 38, was sitting inside his 2013 Lincoln MKZ when a silver sedan pulled up to him in the first block of East Walton around 6:15 a.m. Three men got out of the silver car, displayed guns, and demanded his property.
They pistol-whipped the victim in the back of the head and forced him out of his car, according to a Chicago police spokesperson. Some offenders drove away with his Lincoln, while others followed in the silver sedan. Police said the victim declined medical attention.
About 15 minutes later, three people were robbed in the 100 block of West Hubbard, the police spokesperson said. The victims, a 31-year-old woman and men ages 41 and 26, were outside when a gray car with two occupants pulled up around 6:30 a.m.
A man got out of the car with a gun and demanded the victim’s property. They complied, then ran away, police said.
Police did not release descriptions of the suspects.
