Uptown man shot by drive-by gunman on Wednesday afternoon

CHICAGO — A drive-by shooting left a man injured in Uptown on Wednesday afternoon, Chicago police said.

The 42-year-old was in the 4600 block of North Broadway when someone opened fire on him from a dark-colored Ford Fusion around 2:17 p.m., according to initial information. Bullets struck him in the leg and arm. CPD said he is in good condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Witnesses said the gunman’s car headed north on Broadway after the shooting. An officer at the scene said they found 24 shell casings in the street.

The victim has an extensive criminal record, having racked up 49 separate criminal cases in Cook County since 1997, including 11 felonies. Many of those cases involve allegations of drug dealing on Uptown streets and gun possession. He was convicted of Class X armed habitual criminal in 2022, according to court records.

He is the first person shot in Uptown this year. The neighborhood saw 22 people shot last year, up from 18 in 2022.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
