Gunman fatally shot man during ‘verbal altercation’ on Near West Side: CPD

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man has died after being shot during an argument on the Near West Side yesterday evening.

Damian Gomez was with his girlfriend in the 1900 block of West Hastings when he became involved in a “verbal altercation” with an acquaintance, according to a law enforcement source. Police said the other man pulled out a gun and shot Gomez in the chest and shoulder.

CPD officers located Gomez in his girlfriend’s car at Jessie Brown VA Medical Center. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he later died.

Police were investigating claims that the gunman works with the girlfriend at a nearby store. He was described as a White male wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and a ski mask. So far, though, no arrests have been made.
