Chicago police are investigating after a driver was pistol-whipped and carjacked on the Magnificent Mile this morning. It happened around 5:09 a.m. outside the Westin Hotel, 909 North Michigan.
A 37-year-old man told officers he was getting into his red Toyota Camry when the hijacker walked up behind him, a CPD spokesperson said. The carjacker hit the victim in the back of the head with a gun and drove away with his car.
The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the spokesperson said. He was unable to give the police a description because the carjacker wore a mask.
A city license plate reader pinged the hijacked car near Ashland and Chicago avenues shortly after it was taken. So far, though, no arrests have been announced.
