Robbers attack, stab man in Albany Park

CHICAGO — A man was stabbed during a robbery in the Albany Park neighborhood on Wednesday morning, according to Chicago police. He underwent surgery but is expected to recover.

Police said the 32-year-old was walking in the 3500 block of West Ainslie when three men got out of a car and stabbed him around 6:15 a.m. After the attack, the assailants took his backpack and sped away in the vehicle.

He suffered knife wounds to his face and side, police said. The assailants were described only as Hispanic men in a light gray sedan.

The robbery occurred on the corner of Drake and Ainslie, an intersection that has had so many shooting incidents that a local resident dedicated a YouTube channel to share videos of the gunfire.

At one point, the city installed a temporary police surveillance camera at the intersection to tamp down on the gunfire. Within days, someone pulled up in a car and shot the camera, an event that, as you might guess, was caught on video.

One time, in October 2021, Lori Lightfoot and David Brown, then the city’s mayor and police superintendent, arrived at the intersection in a caravan with local police leaders. They all got out of their SUVs, chatted, and then went their separate ways. Minutes later, a pedestrian pulled out a gun and opened fire on a passing vehicle at the same intersection. That was all caught on camera, too.
