CTA passenger stabbed during robbery attempt on downtown L platform; suspect detained

CHICAGO — A suspect is in custody after a man was stabbed during a robbery attempt on a Loop CTA platform overnight.

Police said a 20-year-old man was on the State-Lake L platform, 200 North State, when another man tried to rob him around 1:35 a.m. The men began to physically fight, and the assailant stabbed the victim above the right eye and in the right side of his chest. CTA surveillance cameras recorded the encounter.

EMS took the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, according to police.

CPD officers arrested the suspected offender after a 911 caller reported that someone had walked into the lobby bleeding from the hand. A witness identified him as the assailant.
