More robberies reported from Logan Square to West Loop as patterns appear to emerge

CHICAGO — More robberies were reported in West Town neighborhoods between Wednesday evening and early today. Some of the crimes appear to be related to holdups that occurred in the same area on Tuesday evening.

Police responded to two robbery reports in the area on Wednesday evening, the first in the 800 block of North Paulina around 6:28 p.m. A 21-year-old man was walking when two men walked up, implied they had a gun, and demanded his property, Chicago police said in a media statement.

About an hour later, another man reported that he was robbed of his wallet, phone, and computer near Chestnut and Noble in Noble Square. Two men confronted him, and he believed one of them displayed a gun, according to preliminary information.

Both holdups are similar to robberies reported in the 500 block of North Racine and 1400 block of West Chicago around the same time on Tuesday. The victims have generally described the suspects as Black men in their early 20s. One has been wearing a red or bright-colored hoodie, while the other wears black clothing.

Later, around 12:15 a.m. today, a man was robbed at gunpoint in the 100 block of North Sangamon. He told police that two men, including one in a green work vest, got out of a black pickup truck to rob him on the street. Both robbers displayed guns, he said.

The holdup sounds similar to a robbery reported in the 200 block of North Clinton around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. Two men committed it, one wearing a yellow safety vest. However, today’s victim reported that the robbers appeared to be Hispanic, while Tuesday’s suspects were said to be Black.

Police are investigating two more armed robberies in Logan Square and Wicker Park this morning.

Around 1:35 a.m., a group of armed men arrived in a gray sedan and robbed two victims in the 3200 block of West Armitage. They took a purse from one woman, but the other victim left before police arrived. An officer at the scene said up to five men wearing dark clothing committed the robbery. They were in their 20s and covered their heads and faces.

About two hours later, at 3:37 a.m., a man was robbed as he left his apartment in the 1500 block of North Hoyne. The 34-year-old said he was walking when a silver sedan pulled up, and four men got out, a CPD spokesperson said. After getting his valuables, the group returned to the vehicle and fled.
