2 armed robberies reported inside a UIC residence hall

CHICAGO — An armed man committed two robberies inside a residence hall at the University of Illinois-Chicago this week, according to the school’s police department. Both robberies occurred inside the UIC Academic Residential Complex, 940 West Harrison, on Wednesday evening, February 28.

In an email notification to the school community, UICPD said a man displayed a knife and demanded money from two victims in separate incidents. Both victims complied by surrendering their cash, the notification said. UICPD said both victims are “UIC affiliated.”

The robber fled from the building after the robberies. UIC police described him as “male 5’10”, 40-50 years of age wearing a black jacket and white washed jeans.”

The department advised against carrying large sums of money and displaying valuables publicly. It also advised students to have their keys ready and in their hands when returning home.

UICPD is heading up the investigation. They can be contacted at 312-996-2830.
