Man found murdered in alley near Lightfoot home

CHICAGO — Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death in an alley near former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s home in Logan Square.

The fire department first responded to a call of a person down next to a trash can in an alley at Wrightwood and Sawyer around 6:30 a.m. They determined that the 29-year-old man was dead with gunshot wounds to his knee and the side of his chest.

Several 911 callers reported shots fired in the area around 1:20 a.m. Those calls came from the area along Wrightwood between Kimball and Kedzie. However, police did not find any signs of trouble when they responded.

Lightfoot lives in the 3400 block of West Wrightwood, about two blocks west of where the man was found.

Updated April 14, 2024: The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Jesus Arce of the 4800 block of West Addison.
