CHICAGO — A man charged with robbing a woman at gunpoint in Bucktown had video footage of the robbery on his phone, according to prosecutors. That information came to light as officials charged Marvin White, 19, with the March 13 holdup.

A 26-year-old woman was in the 2100 block of West North Avenue when she was robbed around 6:05 a.m., according to a Chicago police report. Detectives issued three community alerts, which linked the robbery to an armed crew working in the area. The alerts included video of a robbery and surveillance images of three suspects.

Incredibly, prosecutors told Judge William Fahy that footage of the woman’s robbery was found on White’s iPhone. Fahy detained White as a safety risk.

White had been on felony pretrial release for about three weeks when the robbery occurred. Chicago police pulled him over on February 18 because the license plate on the car he was driving expired last September, according to a CPD report.

Officers saw White bending toward the center console as they approached, the report said. He appeared “visibly nervous, breathing extremely heavily and his hands shaking,” said the report. The police said they found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine under the car’s driver’s seat. White told the officers he didn’t know anything about the gun.

Judge Mary Marubio released him from custody on February 20.
