Logan Square murder sparks $10,000 reward offer

CHICAGO — A $10,000 reward is being offered for information about the murder of Jesus Arce, the man found fatally shot in an alley about two blocks from former Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s home last month.

The fire department responded to a “person down” call and found Arce, 29, in an alley beside a trash can behind the 2600 block of North Sawyer around 6:30 a.m. on April 13. He was pronounced dead, having suffered gunshot wounds to the side of his chest and a knee.

Police responded to calls of shots fired around 1:20 a.m. along Wrightwood between Kimball and Kedzie. However, officers did not find any signs of trouble when they arrived.

Now, Cook County Crime Stoppers is confirming that police believe those early morning gunshots led to Arce’s death. In a bulletin announcing its cash reward offer, the organization said CPD thinks the altercation between Arce and the gunman occurred in Logan Square Park at Logan and Kedzie. After being shot, Arce made his way to the Sawyer alley and collapsed.

For the next 60 days, Crime Stoppers is offering up to $10,000 cash for information leading to the indictment or arrest of anyone responsible for Arce’s murder.

Tipsters do not have to provide their names, the organization said. Instead, they will be given a unique code number that will allow them to claim any reward money earned. The group can be contacted at 800-535-STOP or TIPS@cookcountycrimestoppers.org
