Another man murdered near Howard CTA station, 2nd in 8 days

CHICAGO — A man was shot and killed near the Howard CTA station in Rogers Park this morning, the second person murdered there in eight days.

Police responded to calls of shots fired around 3:30 a.m., and they found the 38-year-old victim lying unresponsive in the street. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CPD. Investigators located six shell casings at the scene.

No other information was available about who fired the shots or any possible motive. The victim is known to local police officers and was most recently arrested late last year on gun and cannabis distribution charges less than 50 yards from where he was shot.

Shortly after midnight last Monday, a 45-year-old man was shot and killed at the corner of Paulina and Howard. Police offered very few details about that case, too.

Two other people have been shot in Rogers Park during June: a 50-year-old woman in the 7300 block of North Rogers on June 12 and a 24-year-old man in the 2000 block of West Touhy on June 13.

Year-to-date, 15 people have been shot in Rogers Park, four fatally. That compares to 19 as of this date last year. There were 12 people shot at this point in 2022 and 11 as of this date in 2021.
