Handcuffed man ran from cops with a machine gun hidden in his crotch, prosecutors say

CHICAGO — It’s not easy to run from the cops while handcuffed. It’s gotta be even harder when you have a machine gun stuffed in your crotch. But prosecutors say that’s exactly what Tyrus Walker did in Chicago Lawn last Thursday. And his sprint for freedom was caught on video.

Judge Antara Rivera ordered Walker, 28, detained after prosecutors detailed their allegations the next day.

Just after 5 p.m., Chicago police responded to a shots fired call in the 6200 block of South Western. They found an unoccupied car in the area with shell casings lying around it, according to a CPD report. And a 911 caller reported seeing someone with a gun: a Black male with dreadlocks wearing a yellow shirt and a camouflage bandana, the report said.

About an hour later, cops saw the same car in traffic and pulled it over near 63rd Street and Artesian. There were three people in the vehicle, including Walker, who matched the description of the man seen with a gun earlier, CPD’s report said.

The officers detained the car’s occupants, but Walker bolted from the scene moments after the officers handcuffed him, according to the report.

That’s where the video, first posted to Facebook by Anonymous 2.0, kicks in. Watch:

The cops caught Walker just off camera and patted him down. They found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and an automatic-fire switch stuffed in his “front thigh area,” the report said.

Walker, who officials said has a license to own firearms but not a concealed carry permit, is charged with unlawful use of a machine gun.
