CHICAGO — The man prosecutors say burglarized units at a Northwest Side storage facility four times this year was already on pretrial release for allegedly burglarizing a storage unit in Melrose Park.

Donovan George, 40, targeted the Life Storage complex at 6603 West Diversey on January 14, February 24, February 27, and March 4, according to criminal complaints filed against him. Chicago police said in an arrest report that he was identified through surveillance video footage.

Last year, prosecutors charged George with burglarizing a storage unit in the 8300 block of West North Avenue in Melrose Park. Prosecutors said he got away with between 15 and 25 bottles of wine worth $1,200 to $1,500 from the unit. He was on pretrial release for that matter at the time of the Life Storage break-ins.

Judge Rivanda Doss Beal detained George for violating his pretrial release. He is charged with four new counts of burglary and a misdemeanor charge of possessing burglary tools, a crowbar.
