Despite the blistering heat, Chicago had relatively few shootings over the weekend, with three people killed and 23 others injured across the city, according to data from the crime tracking site HeyJackass.com. It’s the lowest shooting toll for the same weekend since 2018, which also had three killed and 23 injured, the site reported.
In total, CPD handled 20 shooting incidents over the weekend, involving victims ranging in age from 11 to 63. So far, police have not announced charges in connection with any of the shootings.
The department provided the following details about the crimes:
Friday, June 20
- 1:58 p.m., 1500 block of S. Kedzie Ave.: A 26-year-old woman on the sidewalk was shot in the right leg by an unknown offender. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- 4:35 p.m., 4300 block of W. Dickens Ave.: A 34-year-old man near an alley was shot in the leg by an unknown shooter. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- 7:05 p.m., 400 block of N. Wells St.: A 36-year-old man was shot in the left arm during a fight with an unknown male who fired a gun. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
Saturday, June 21
- 2:03 a.m., 3900 block of W. Washington Blvd.: A 21-year-old woman, a passenger in a vehicle, was shot in the chest and grazed in the stomach after trying to grab a gun from a female offender during an argument. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
- 2:30 a.m., 6200 block of S. King Dr.: A 34-year-old man on the sidewalk heard gunshots, ran, and realized he was shot twice in the left foot. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- 2:30 a.m., 2300 block of W. Roosevelt Rd.: Three victims on the sidewalk were shot when three armed males exited a black SUV and opened fire before fleeing. A 25-year-old man, shot in the ankle, was taken to Rush Hospital in good condition. A 24-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds and a 23-year-old woman shot in the chest and abdomen were both pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.
- 3:04 a.m., 3600 block of W. Fifth Ave.: Two men, aged 25 and 21, were shot at the entrance of a housing complex by an unknown offender. The 25-year-old had a graze wound to the forehead, and the 21-year-old was shot in the right leg. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
- 5:24 a.m., 100 block of E. 93rd St.: Officers found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
- 7:15 a.m., 3600 block of W. Fifth Ave.: Two men, aged 21 and 26, standing near the sidewalk were shot multiple times by an unknown offender. They self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
- 4:10 p.m., 5600 block of S. Western Ave.: A 33-year-old man on the sidewalk was shot in the right leg by an unknown offender. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- 5:28 p.m., 1400 block of S. Tripp Ave.: An 11-year-old boy in a park was shot in the lower back by an unknown offender. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
- 9:09 p.m., 9700 block of S. Commercial Ave.: A 35-year-old man was shot in the back by an unknown shooter. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- 10:47 p.m., 12000 block of S. Harvard Ave.: A 26-year-old man near the sidewalk was shot in the leg by an unknown offender. He was taken to Roseland Hospital in fair condition.
- 11:33 p.m., 8000 block of S. Ingleside Ave.: Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, on the sidewalk were shot in the leg by an unknown shooter. They were taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, the 17-year-old in serious condition and the 18-year-old in fair condition.
Sunday, June 22
- 1:15 a.m., 4900 block of W. Gunnison St.: A 25-year-old man in a vehicle was shot in the finger by an unknown offender who approached and fired a handgun. He was taken to Community First Hospital in good condition.
- 4:09 a.m., 1300 block of S. Kolin Ave.: A 63-year-old man inside a residence was shot in the head by gunfire from outside. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died.
- 4:10 a.m., 5400 block of S. Throop St.: A 16-year-old girl near the sidewalk was shot in the leg by an unknown offender. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.
- 4:40 a.m., 400 block of N. Hamlin Ave.: Officers found a 39-year-old woman inside a residence with a gunshot wound to the arm. She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- 5:25 a.m., 5100 block of W. Thomas St.: An 18-year-old man self-transported to West Suburban Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and was later moved to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
- 8:34 a.m., 4400 block of W. Monroe St.: A 32-year-old man near the sidewalk was shot in the leg by an unknown offender. He self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Monday, June 23
- 2:20 a.m., 8400 block of S. Muskegon Ave.: A 28-year-old man on the sidewalk heard gunshots and was hit in the right thigh. He self-transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
The police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman who was found dead in Lake Michigan near Navy Pier on Saturday evening.
