CTA worker sexually attacked by 7-time felon awaiting trial in Red Line gun case: prosecutors

A seven-time convicted felon on pretrial release for allegedly bringing a stolen gun onto the Red Line this summer is now accused of sexually attacking a female CTA employee at the 95th Street station Sunday afternoon.

The attack occurred at about 4:30 p.m. while the woman was working at the 95th Street Red Line, according to a Chicago Police Department report. Officers assigned to the station as part of the department’s recent public transit security surge were already on site when the victim ran to one of them and reported the attack.

Police arrested Andre Hill, 43, who was still at the scene. Prosecutors said CTA video shows Hill forcibly touching the woman’s private areas as she worked at the station.

Judge Deidre Dyer ordered Hill detained on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse during the commission of another felony, aggravated battery of a transit employee, and aggravated battery in a public place.

Court records show Hill was already on pretrial release in a separate gun case. On July 9, officers encountered Hill at the 69th Street Red Line station after seeing him smoking on CTA property, according to a detention filing. Officers stopped him nearby and recovered a loaded, stolen handgun from one of his backpacks along with 48 grams of cannabis from another, prosecutors said.

Hill was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The following day, Judge Antara Rivera granted the state’s request to detain him pending trial, citing his extensive criminal history, including two convictions for illegal gun possession and another for escape.

Less than three weeks later, however, Judge John Lyke denied prosecutors’ renewed request to keep Hill detained and ordered him released while the case was pending, according to court filings.

Hill’s record in Cook County stretches back more than two decades. Court documents list 35 criminal cases filed against him since 2002, including nine felony cases. Many of the cases involved allegations that Hill sold marijuana on CTA property, charges that were later dismissed.
