Three people were shot as Chicago police worked to disperse a large gathering along the lakefront in Hyde Park on Monday night, prompting police to quickly release surveillance images of the gunman and ask the public to help track him down.
The enormous gathering near Promontory Point had been going on for hours, with the city warning drivers that it was so big it was affecting traffic on Lake Shore Drive, and reporters estimating the crowd at more than 1,000 people when the shooting occurred a few blocks inland around 10 p.m.
CPD said three men were standing near the corner of Cornell Avenue and 55th Street when the gunman opened fire at 9:59 p.m. Police offered no motive for the attack.
All three victims were said to be in good condition: an 18-year-old man shot in the right hand and two 19-year-old men, one shot in the leg and the other in the hip.

On Tuesday, CPD released surveillance images of a suspect in the shooting and asked anyone with information about the crime to contact Area One detectives. The community alert said the shooter is a Black male between 16 and 19 years old who was last seen wearing a black sweater with white writing on the sleeves, blue pants, black and white gym shoes, and a black ski mask. He also had a dark-colored backpack.
