A man authorities have been hunting since announcing a major video gaming burglary ring earlier this month is now behind bars after leading suburban police on a 107 mph chase that ended with a foot pursuit on the Eisenhower Expressway, officials said.
Don Williams Jr., 20, is being held on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated fleeing and eluding, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced. He also faces an outstanding warrant in connection with the burglary ring that prosecutors say stole more than $100,000 from gambling machines across Chicagoland.
The chase began around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, August 16, when Villa Park police tried to stop Williams near Route 83 and St. Charles Road, according to Berlin. He said officers targeted Williams for minor infractions and because they suspected the car had been used in a previous felony.
Williams initially pulled over, but he allegedly sped away as the officer stepped out of his squad car. Berlin said he exceeded 107 mph in a 55-mph zone near Roosevelt Road and York Street. Oak Brook police deployed spike strips as Williams entered eastbound I-290, puncturing two of his tires. But the pursuit didn’t end there. Williams continued driving at 65 to 70 mph on two flat tires before finally slowing down and crashing into a guardrail on the expressway, Berlin said.
After the crash, Williams and four other people ran from the car, Berlin said. Cops took Williams into custody following a brief foot chase. Inside the vehicle, police allegedly found a loaded Glock handgun equipped with a 28-round extended magazine on the driver’s seat, along with another extended magazine on the backseat.
Earlier this month, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced charges against Williams and two other men in connection with a string of gaming machine burglaries that hit more than a dozen businesses in Cook, Will, and Grundy Counties between October 2025 and July 2026. The thefts netted more than $100,000, authorities said.
While two of the accused — Devontay A. Brady, 30, of Maywood, and Anthony T. Shorter, 23, of Bellwood — were taken into custody at the time of the announcement, a warrant was issued for Williams.
The burglary investigation also led to the arrest of Davon Meeks, a 23-year-old rapper who performs under the name VonOff1700. Meeks was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felon following the execution of a search warrant tied to the case, Raoul’s office said.
