A crowd of about 300 people closed a West Loop intersection overnight as tricked-out cars spun donuts in the street for more than 30 minutes before Chicago police could muster up enough units to address the problem.
Police are investigating a series of armed robberies and carjackings that unfolded in about two hours early today in Lincoln Park, Bucktown, West Town, and the Lower West Side. No arrests have been made in the robberies, which appear to be the work of a hold-up crew that uses at least two cars.
Another wave of armed robberies rolled across the city overnight, leaving at least 11 victims in its wake. Police believe some of the robberies are linked to another string of hold-ups that unfolded the night before in Streeterville.
A Cook County judge expressed her “grave concerns” about a misdemeanor gun case in which police allegedly found two weapons in a car — including one hidden in a secret compartment — during a traffic stop in the West Loop.
