Chicago Police Department Case #HW338524

A man walking down a Boystown sidewalk was grabbed, pulled into an alleyway, and sexually attacked a few minutes after midnight today. The shocking attack took place just a half block east of the Halsted Strip, between two residences at 727 W. Cornelia Avenue. The highly emotional victim described his attacker as a male, black, in his late 30’s, 5’9” tall, 180 pounds, with black and gray hair, wearing black jeans and a backwards baseball cap.

As background, “rape” is not the name of a crime in Illinois. The state classifies crimes commonly known as rape–forced sexual penetration, penetration in which the other party is not capable of giving legal consent, etc–as criminal sexual assault.

The location of this morning’s attack.

UPDATED 5 JULY 2013: Added case number. Added Illinois law information.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
