NEARBY: Overnight Home Invasion

Wrigleyville and Boystown are waking up from a generally peaceful night, but a family just west of us was terrorized by an overnight home invasion.

A woman fled her home shortly after 2 o’clock this morning and called 911 after two men wearing masks broke in while she was sleeping in the 3700 block of N. Jannsen, between Waveland and Grace, just west of Southport.

The victims met officers at CVS pharmacy, 3637 N. Southport, and described the intruders as one Hispanic man and one black man. Both were about six feet tall and wore ski masks. A police evidence technician has been called to the home.
Nearly three hours later, at 4:43AM, a resident one block north of the home invasion scene called 911 to report suspicious activity in the alley at Jannsen and Byron Street. The caller said a tall, thin male, black, wearing a black do-rag, baggy white t-shirt, and blue jeans got out of a red Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe and walked into a gangway with a drill. The caller then heard drilling nosies from the alley as another black male repeatedly drove the red vehicle around the block “as if he’s the lookout.” The two men were last seen eastbound on Byron. It is not known if they are connected to the bona fide home invasion or if their activity was criminal in nature.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
