TIDBITS: Burglar Freaks Out; Wallet Lost In “Bookstore”

Last Tuesday, we told you about a young teen boy who was apparently beaten up and robbed in an alley near Roscoe and Janssen, about a block from the Southport L station. Police spoke to a witness upon arrival, but could not find the boy.

We have now learned that a report was later filed in this matter. The incident is recorded as a strong arm robbery in case HX164295.

Burglar Bolts

A mailman noticed a burglar alarm sounding as he approached a home in the 3600 block of Wolcott around 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. At the same time, a man opened the home’s front door, saw the postal worker, slammed the door, then ran out the back.

Sensing that something wasn’t quite right with all of that, the mailman called 911.

Officers arrived, entered the still-open back door, and secured the home. A burglary was confirmed.

Several units toured the area in search of the offender, who is described as a heavyset Hispanic man, in his late 30’s or early 40’s. He had facial hair, carried a satchel, and wore a dark coat with blue jeans. He was last seen running westbound on Patterson.
