The victim suffered a knife wound to his back, but was reported to be “walking and talking” when officers arrived. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.
According to the victim, a Hispanic man in a white t-shirt stabbed him and was last seen walking away along the lakefront near Addison.
Recorded as an aggravated battery with a knife in CPD case HX221578.
UPDATE 4:58PM–DNAInfo Chicago has a late afternoon report:
The victim, 45, was sitting on a bench with another man, 48, at 12:15 a.m. in the 3600 block of North Recreation Drive when they were approached by two other people, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a police spokeswoman.
The two groups began arguing, and the victim and his acquaintance tried to leave. A physical altercation began between the two groups, Pacheco said, and the man was stabbed in the lower back.
With all due respect to spokesofficer Pacheco, the stabbing was first announced to officers at 11:56PM Saturday night. Perhaps she meant to say that officers arrived on-scene at 12:15AM, because it did take a while for the Office of Emergency Management and Communications to find an available unit.
