Two women were injured yesterday evening in what appear to be related, but completely separate attacks by an unknown man in the area.

In the first case, a woman reported that an unknown man jumped out of hiding and struck her in the head “as hard as he could” with a rock, brick, or chunk of concrete near the Walgreens at Halsted and Barry around 4:15PM. Officers called for an ambulance, but the victim declined treatment. A search of the area failed to locate the offender. CPD case HX243267.

Then, at 8 o’clock, witnesses called 911 after an unknown man struck a 21-year-old woman in the head with “something” near the Diversey Brown Line station and then fled southbound on Wilton through the alley. He was not found. CPD case HX243565.

Officers believe the two attacks were the work of the same offender. Witnesses describe the man as male, black, possibly in his late 20’s, 5’7″ tall, 150 pounds. He was wearing a maroon top and shorts in the first incident and may have worn a running jacket with shorts in the second case.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
