The big story this weekend was the ongoing surge in overnight muggings. But that’s just the tip of the action:
FRIDAY, 4:33PM
Near Irving Park and Broadway, a man reportedly approaches a woman from behind and tries to drag her into a gangway between two buildings in an apparent attempted sexual assault. A passing motorist sees it happen, honks his horn, and scares the attacker away.
The woman tells police that she had just walked from the Sheridan Red Line station. Where the man came from is not known. The attacker is described as a black man, about 30 years old, 5’9″ tall, 150 pounds, with facial stubble, and an orange or red pick in his hair.
FRIDAY, 6:34PM
Police on patrol are flagged down at the Belmont Red Line station. The citizen says they just got off of a southbound train after another passenger reached down, displayed a handgun and clicked its slide. The suspect is described as a white guy, 240 pounds, dressed in black with a gray t-shirt.
SUNDAY, 12:43AM
Two men are beaten behind a restaurant in the 3100 block of Lincoln. Arriving officers report that one victim, severely beaten, has suffered a head injury and is semi-conscious. The offenders—described as 3 or 4 male Asians—are last seen running southbound.
