A 48-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in the 500 block of W. Addison Sunday evening. Two juveniles are in custody.

Police were called to the intersection of Pine Grove and Addison at 11:40PM after the victim surrendered his phone and cash to a 17-year-old male who brandished what police later determined to be a replica firearm.

The boy and a 14-year-old girl fled northbound and were taken into custody by officers at Pine Grove and Waveland minutes later. Both were positively identified and the victim’s property was recovered, police said.

Police today announced that both offenders have been charged with one count of armed robbery. The suspects names were not released because they are juveniles.

Attempted Robbery of Cabbie Confirmed

Chicago police have confirmed details of yet another robbery in the neighborhood.

A cab driver called police from Addison and Lake Shore Drive after he was attacked by passengers around 3:55PM on April 3. Investigating officers originally believed that the case was a failed carjacking by three men who were riding in the cab. A language barrier hampered the initial investigation, police said.

The three offenders—all of whom were captured on video—failed to gain control of the cab and fled the scene.

They were described as:

1) Male, Hispanic, 35, 5’9” tall, 155 pounds
2) Male, black, 30, 6’2” tall, 200 pounds
3) Male, black, shorter than the other two. Unknown weight.

All three men carried backpacks.

Neighborhood Robbery Rate Continues To Soar

As of Monday morning, 44 robberies have been reported in Wrigleyville and Boystown this year—1 144% increase.

By comparison, only 18 robberies had been reported at this point last year and 23 had been reported at this time in 2014.

The surge in reports has the neighborhood on-pace to record a record high number of robbery reports in 2016.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
