Uptown logged its fourth homicide of the year when two people were shot in the 4500 block of N. Sheridan this afternoon.

A 57-year-old woman was shot in the chest and later died at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. A 58-year-old man also suffered at least one gunshot wound to the leg. He is expected to recover.  They are the 22nd and 23rd persons shot in Uptown this year.

The woman listed a home address in the 4500 block of N. Broadway when she was arrested for shoplifting earlier this year, according to court records secured by CWBChicago.  She is not believed to have been the intended target.

Witnesses told police that a newer, black 4-door Toyota sedan rolled up Sheridan around 3:20PM and a man opened fire from the rear right passenger window.

The vehicle was last seen eastbound on Wilson from Sheridan, a witness said.

Four homicides have been recorded in Uptown during 2016. One was determined to be a justified killing of an attempted carjacker by a concealed carry license holder.

About CWBChicago 4259 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
