Moving From Kansas City, Man’s Targeted By Gunman In Lincoln Park

Welcome to Chicago, chump!

A Kansas City man came thisclose to becoming another shooting statistic as he helped a friend move into a Lincoln Park apartment on Saturday. Fortunately for him, the gunman missed.

It all played out at 5:45 PM Saturday at the three-way intersection of Diversey, Damen, and Clybourn…less than 100 yards from where a 46-year-old man was shot on September 1.

The would-be victim was driving a Budget moving truck when a complete stranger ran up and fired shots at him. Bystanders dove to the ground at a nearby CTA bus shelter and the man from Kansas City took off running.

Witnesses describe the gunman as a “young” black teenage male who has blond-tipped dreadlocks that “point up.” He was last seen running southbound on Damen from Diversey.

The description of Saturday’s shooter closely resembles that of a man who was reportedly involved in a carjacking attempt further north on Damen last Monday.

In that incident, a man reported that two offenders forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint near 4433 N. Damen around 12:30 AM. For unknown reasons, the two offenders fled the scene without taking the car, police said.

The primary offender was described as black, slender, young, 5’8” tall, with blond-tipped dreadlocks.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
