Chicago police are investigating a criminal sexual assault that took place in a DePaul University parking lot early Friday morning. It is the third sexual assault reported on the DePaul campus in the past month.

The school’s public safety office warned students and employees about the latest attack in a campus alert yesterday afternoon.

A woman who is “not affiliated with Depaul…was grabbed by an unknown person” while walking in the 2200 block of North Sheffield around 2 a.m. Friday, the alert said. The offender then assaulted the woman in a university parking lot behind the school’s student center.

Neither DePaul’s alert nor Chicago police offered a description of the offender.

Friday’s attack is at least the third sexual assault reported in the DePaul area over the past month.

Around 2:30 a.m. on October 20, an 18-year-old woman was sexually attacked by another student in a dorm on the school’s Lincoln Park campus after the two attended a party. No charges have been filed in the case, according to a CWB Chicago search of court records on Thursday afternoon.

Early on October 11, another woman reported a sexual assault in a different dorm on the Lincoln Park campus, according to the school’s public safety office. No further information was available about that case on Saturday.

Summer Attack

In August, a teenager fought off a man who tried to sexually assault her in an alley as she walked home from the DePaul University Library.

The 17-year-old girl told cops that the man came up behind her, pushed her into an alley, knocked her to the ground, and tried to assault her in the 2000 block of North Mohawk around 11:30 p.m.

She fought the man off and ran away, police said.

Police describe the August attacker as a white man who was wearing a white t-shirt and black pants.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
