Charges Filed In Lakeview Party Bus Shooting

Victor Haynes | CPD

A 31-year-old Englewood man has been charged with shooting two passengers on a party bus near the Lakeview/Uptown border early Sunday morning.

Victor Haynes got into an argument on the bus, and he then pulled out a gun and shot the men as the vehicle neared the 500 block of West Irving Park Road around 1:53 a.m., police said.

Haynes ran from the bus but was captured by police minutes later as he entered the lobby of a residential building at 3500 North Lake Shore Drive.

He is now charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery-discharge of a firearm and one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A 38-year-old man who was shot in the head during the incident remains in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The second victim, 33, is reportedly in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

On Sunday, police mistakenly said that the 38-year-old was 22.

Haynes also suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left hand, police said.

Haynes, who has felony convictions for narcotics violations, will be in bond court on Tuesday.
