A Lakeview man told police that he was carjacked at gunpoint near Cornelia and Pine Grove Sunday evening.

Details of the incident resemble circumstances described in a Chicago Police Department alert about seven auto thefts and carjackings across the North Side on Friday.

Sunday’s victim said three men approached him in the 500 block of West Cornelia around 9:15 p.m. and threatened him with a black revolver. The three jumped into his black 2012 Honda Civic and sped away northbound on Pine Grove, the man said.

He described the offenders as three young black men:

  • The first suspect wore a black hoodie and had a short buzz cut. He stands about 5’8” tall.
  • The second suspect wore a dark top with red writing. He is a little taller than the first man.
  • No further information was available about the third suspect.

On Saturday, Chicago police warned the public about a string of carjackings that were reported within 12 hours on Friday.

Sunday, the department revised its alert to say that there were six thefts of vehicles that had been left running and one armed carjacking.

Auto thefts included in the warning include one in the 3500 block of North Clark near Wrigley Field and another in the 1900 block of North Lincoln in Lincoln Park.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
