The North Side’s bump ’n’ run auto theft plague is not getting better. And CWBChicago has learned that a suspect vehicle has been connected to the pattern.

In the most recent case, a man’s $100,000 Porsche was taken around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near Division and Halsted in River North. The black Panamera 4-door was last seen heading toward the Kennedy Expressway, police said.

Most recently, the thieves took a Porsche similar to this one.

As is typical, the thieves pulled their car behind the Porsche and lightly tapped the back end of the car with their own.

When the car’s driver got out to inspect the damage, one of the thieves jumped behind the wheel and sped away with the tail car right behind ‘em.

Cops are on the lookout for a Chrysler 300 that has been used in many recent bump ’n’ runs, including yesterday’s Porsche theft, according to a police source. The suspect vehicle is silver or gray and has tinted windows. Its license plate begins with X92.

Detectives have connected the following incidents to the theft pattern:

• 1800 block of North Clybourn on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM
• 1500 block of North Dayton on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:06 PM
100 block of East La Salle on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 9:00 PM
• 1700 block of North Halsted on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 10:30 PM
• 800 block of West Blackhawk on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 2:45 PM
• 2300 block of North Halsted on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 9:50 PM
• 300 block of West Hubbard on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:45 PM

Up to three male thieves are involved in each incident, police said. The suspects are black and 19-29 years of age. A black female was involved in one incident. She is believed to be 19- to 22-years-old.

Police suggest that drivers remove keys from their cars and turn off their engines before stepping out of their vehicles to inspect collision damage.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
