Last Week: Florida Man Refused To Charge Him With Robbery…This Week: He Steals Money From A 60-Year-Old Beggar, Cops Say

He caught a break last week when a Florida man refused to press armed robbery charges against him after a Boystown hold-up.

But Derrick Robie apparently didn’t learn any lessons.

Robie, 19, was arrested again in Boystown Sunday morning, now charged with theft for allegedly taking money from a beggar’s cup at Halsted and Roscoe.

Police say Robie was in the 800 block of West Roscoe around 4:40 a.m. when he knocked a 60-year-old beggar’s change cup from the man’s hand and fled.

An officer was on scene almost immediately and took Robie into custody.

He’s charged with misdemeanor theft.

On June 9, a Florida man identified Robie as one of three offenders who held a knife to his stomach and demanded his iPhone in Boystown, police said.

Robie allegedly shoved the victim into a wall and pressed a knife to his stomach saying, “Gimme the phone, you know what this is,” police said.

Cops caught up with Robie in the 3200 block of North Halsted a few minutes later. But the victim, a 22-year-old college student from Tampa, refused to press robbery charges because he will not return to Chicago for court.

Officers did recover a knife from Robie that the victim identified as the weapon used in the hold-up. So, the City of Chicago is pursuing a misdemeanor charge of sale or possession of a deadly weapon against him.
