CBS2 aired video of the auto break-ins last year. Sunday, Mitchell (inset) was arrested. |
Larry Mitchell was just kickin’ back, enjoying the holiday weekend. Sitting on a bench by the basketball court in Uptown’s Clarendon Park, Sunday afternoon seemed to be just dandy.
But, then, around 2 o’clock, a passing patrol officer recognized Mitchell as one of the men who was captured on surveillance video during burglaries at North Side car dealerships late last year.
Larry Mitchell’s pleasant Sunday took an unexpected turn.
He was arrested and is now charged with three counts of felony burglary.
Prosecutors say he and others kicked in the door at Mike Anderson Chevrolet on October 24 and drove off with a 2017 Chevy Malibu, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and stacks of dealer license plates.
The 32-year-old Edgewater resident is also charged with breaking into Metro Toyota on July 29 and again on October 12 to steal dealer plates.
His bail is set at $75,000.
Cops say Mitchell is a member of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang, but Mitchell told them on Sunday that he is “not an active member.”
