Robbers have attacked at least three people in Wrigleyville and Boystown since Saturday evening, police said. The muggings continue a busy week of street crime in Lakeview’s bustling east side. Here’s the latest:
• A 24-year-old Lakeview man was robbed at gunpoint by three men around 9:45 p.m. last night. The victim was in the 1200 block of West Roscoe when the offenders approached him and displayed a dark-colored handgun. After taking the victim’s wallet and phone, all three robbers fled north on Lakewood and west on Newport, police said. The victim told police that the three were young black men dressed in dark clothing.
Police this morning were working to see if the suspects are the same individuals who were arrested for robbing a brewpub worker on his smoke break around 10:30 p.m. in North Center.
• Robbers punched a man in the face, implied they had a gun and robbed him of $26 in the 3400 block of North Lake Shore Drive around 10:15 p.m. Saturday. The victim described the attackers as two black men with dreadlocks who stand about 5’9” tall. One wore a gray and black hoodie. The victim was treated by an ambulance crew for his injuries.
• Another man was robbed at gunpoint by two men in the 900 block of West Roscoe around 2:30 this morning. The victim was near an alley when the robbers approached him, pulled out a handgun, and announced a robbery. The victim said both robbers were black, with one wearing a black hat with a black zip-up jacket and the other wearing a Cubs jacket. They were last seen running eastbound toward Halsted.
On Friday afternoon, a masked gunman attempted to rob a sandwich shop near Wrigleyville, police said. The man entered Jimmy Johns, 3328 North Clark, around 4:50 p.m. with a white bandana, goggles, and sunglasses on his face while brandishing a silver semi-automatic handgun. But he apparently got cold feet and ran out the restaurant’s back door before getting any money. Witnesses said the offender, who was slender and stood about 5’10” tall, was last seen running south in the alley wearing gloves and carrying a gray grocery bag.
