North Center: Robbers Crack Man Over The Head, Steal Phone Monday Evening

A man was hit over the head during a robbery in North Center yesterday evening. At around the same time, a woman fought off two would-be robbers in the Roscoe Village area. Here is what we’ve learned:

Around 7:15 p.m., three teens attacked a man and robbed him of his phone in the 4300 block of North Oakley. The victim was treated at Swedish Hospital for his injuries. Police believe the man may have been hit over the head with a 40-ounce glass beer bottle that was found at the scene.

The suspects, described as three male teens wearing dark clothing, were last seen eastbound in an alley from the robbery site. The incident was captured on a local resident’s surveillance camera, according to a police department source.

In Roscoe Village, a woman told police that two men tried to rob her near the intersection of Roscoe and Bell around 7:25 p.m. The victim had no valuables with her, and the offenders fled empty-handed, she said.

Police described the suspects as a Hispanic man and a black man who fled in a black, older model Ford Mustang. The victim did not file a police report.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
